1790 French Toile de Nantes " Psyche et L'amor " red fabric 18th century printi

Roman mythology ~Scary and interesting all at the same time~ ( I've made a video of this panel on my Instagram @texiletrunk A wonderful, antique French textile dating c1790. This textile is an antique , 18th century fabric panel. The toile fabric on this front of this wonderful textile is a toile de Nantes, printed 1790. This toile was printed using a copper plate . It was printed by Petitpierre et Cie and was mordant printed using the root of the madder plant. This wonderful pattern ~ there is an interpretation of this pattern which tells the story of Cupid and Psyche ~ ~ Also told is the tale of Apuleius in the Metamorphoses . Here are evoked not only the adventure of Psyche and Cupid, but also the torments suffered by Psyche for her having too much interest towards Cupid! ~ The history of these toile pieces are fascinating ~*~ The building shown is inspired by the Paris Pantheon ~ ( then, just being completed ) Printed on to medium weight cotton linen blend ~ MEASUREMENTS: This panel measures approximately 106 inches long by 18 inches wide ~ CONDITION: This textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition for collectors, but could be hand washed and hung to dry! There are holes in this panel, ( please use the zoom feature to see exactly )there are also marks that may not wash ~ signs of time and use often inherent in these magical antiques!! Etsy Toile :901
