Audubon. The octavo editions were sold by subscription. The First octavo edition was published in seven volumes from 1840 to 1844. Original protective tissue page is still attached at left margin. A copy of Audubon’s original text will be included with this hummingbird print. I am listing all four Audubon hummingbirds from the octavo First Edition of Birds of America. Since the text pages are printed on both sides, there is overlap between hummingbirds. Not all included pages will be the original text page, but a mix of original pages and photocopies. Photocopies of the title page from Volume III and a list of the original subscribers will also be included. Size: 6 ½” wide by 10 ¼” high Condition: Please see the photos. They are part of the description of condition. There is age toning to the paper with some faint staining at the bottom edge and left margin. There is some waviness at the edges – shows clearly in photos. There is a tiny chip missing at the lower right corner. The left margin was not torn cleanly when the print was removed from the volume, and there is a small break at the left margin (3/8” into the margin) – shows in photos an inch to the left of the green leaves. The flaws are almost all in the outer margins of the print and could easily be matted out for framing.
