Description: This is a scarce and most desirable Ames Cavalry officers sword and scabbard of the civil war. The sharkskin is 100% intact with a seam where the sharkskin meets and this happens quite a bit from shrinkage over the years. The hilt has a mellow patina with the ames eagle at the quillion. The ames marking cannot be seen on the front side due to the manufacture's criss crossing polishing. The etching is a little light but all visible. US and eagle too. The scabbard bears the Ames marking but missing it's throat. Might have been taken off as it's a very tight fit. The scabbard was blued at the time made and was cleaned off in recent years.
