Description: Cast iron weight of some sort with the raised lettering ”Pat’d 1870 by Levi F. Smith Phila. Pa.” on one side. The other side shows a raised American eagle. We are not sure what this item was used for? The weight? or whatever it is? has the original black paint mostly intact. There is some wear & a rich dark patina. The weight measures 2 9/16 inches long by 2 3/8 inches wide by 1 3/16 inches deep. The total weight of this chunky little item (whatever it is) is quite heavy for such a small size as it comes up on our postal scale at a hefty 1 pound 9.2 ounces. This item has a peg on the side which has the lettering. The peg appears to have either been filed or partially cut off a bit on the end where it was apparently once attached to something connected in some way with the piece we are offering. We would love to know what it is. But, we have not had any luck with our research on it. Please examine the photos closely & purchase based on your own judgement as to condition & value. This item is inventory #6600. Shipping is free only to addresses within the U.S. The shipping quote to locations outside of the U.S. is an estimate and the actual cost may differ.
