Description: 1871-CC Liberty Seated dime, PCGS AU55. This really needs no introduction, though it is a lovely example of this extremely rare issue. From a tiny mintage of only 20,100 coins, VERY few of which survive in any condition, much less close to this. The PCGS Population Report is instructive: There are only 5 grading events (notice we didn't say distinct coins, likely there are fewer actual coins than grading events) higher than this, and they are all Mint State...two in 62, one in 63 and one in 64. There is also a single 65PL, which appears to be the Eugene Gardner coin, crossed from NGC 65 to PCGS 65, sold in the Gardner sale in 2018 for $264K, and then subsequently to the PCGS 65 PL holder. The 63 sold at Stacks in 2012 for $98K, and one of the 62's sold in 2014 at Goldberg for $85K. CAC reports 13 stickers in all grades combined (a single 55 is the highest), and ZERO CACG grading events, in all grades combined.
