Description: Back starting with the 1896 election, the Gold versus Silver issue became a big campaign argument. In fact, the fairly young democrat nominee, William Jennings Bryan, owed his top spot mainly because of a speech he made at the Democrat National Convention that year. Look up the "Cross of Gold" speech. Even though he got wiped out by republican William McKinley in this election, democrats gave him another chance in 1900, but with the same disastrous outcome. So, they avoided Bryan in the 1904 cycle only to have THAT democrat nominee, Alton Parker, get creamed at the polls by McKinley's replacement after he died from assassination, Theodore Roosevelt. And it was by an even bigger landslide. Since Bryan was still a force inside that party and with no one else on the bench to turn to, they re-nominated him in 1908 to run against TR's chosen successor, William Howard Taft. And GUESS what happened, that time? Yup. Another whupping for the poor windbag. You should see some of the political postcards we have for sale in our eBay store which make fun of him terribly. This 7/8" cello button is from 1908 and shows the now balding candidate in a color image, with its Whitehead and Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey back paper intact. We hope it will be a nice addition for a beginning collector or a nice holiday gift for a young historian. It is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. There may be light surface wear and scratches as found on most all older pins. Shipping on it will be $5.85 sent well-protected with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. And we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we don't. We just give you a refund for any overpayment. 9468
