Description: Boots and Saddles, Elizabeth Custer, (1913), Harpers and Brothers Publishing, New York, New York, Octavo, 315 pages, former Library Book Hardback book is in Good condition. Former Library book. Has all extensive library markings and accoutrements. Small page repairs with old scotch tape. Pages are lightly toned. Book is intact. No missing pages. Many years ago I visited Little Bighorn. We stayed in Hardin, Montana, with a family where the husband played a cavalry soldier in Little Bighorn Re-enactments. We were given a cassette tape by the husband to listen to and follow along the route of the battle. There was something very mythical about the place. I recall wondering if we should thank Libbie Custer’s contribution to her husband’s memory through her writing to make the site even more interesting. It is a testament of a woman’s belief in her husband’s honor. She was left destitute after George’s death. She survived on a $5,000 life insurance payout. She left North Dakota and returned to Michigan to pen her rehabilitation of George. It is remarkable I can’t recall another similar situation.
