Description: 1925 Zeenut PCL (E137) - Harold Chavez, Oakland Oaks - SGC 1.5 - Rare, Pop of 1 On the Set, 1925 Zeenut PCL - Introduced in northern California in 1908, Zeenut (Zee-Nut) candy was created by William P. Chase, possibly to compete with the then-popular Cracker Jack offering. Later, the company was sold to the Collins-McCarthy Candy Co. Zee-Nut consisted of syrup-covered popcorn, peanuts, and coconut. As a marketing tool, Zeenut baseball cards were included with the candy from 1911-1938. The Zeenut series presented players from the Pacific Coast League. Beginning in 1915 and lasting until 1932, the Zeenut series is the only minor league baseball set issued for those years, except for 1921 (Frederick Foto Service), 1924 (Crescent Ice Cream Hanbury), and 1928 (Exhibits Pacific Coast League). Jefferson Burdick's American Card Catalogue categorized the sets issued between 1911 and 1914 as E136, while those from 1915 to 1938 were labeled E137. On the Player - Harold Percy Chavez (1904-1958) was a minor league shortstop for the Salt Lake City Bees, Oakland Oaks, Lincoln Links, Des Moines Boosters and Portland Beavers. He began playing during the 1922 season and last took the field during the 1925 campaign. On the card - This card offered for sale is the only example for Chavez graded by either PSA or SGC.
