Talamanca was laid down as hull number 344 by the Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Company of Newport News, Virginia on 2 February 1931 as the first of six sister ships driven by turbo-electric transmission. The company's ships were named for cities, provinces or mountain ranges in Central and South America. Photo is Dated: August 15, 1931. THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC PHOTO, NOT A COPY OR SCANS.
