IMPORTANT ! ๐Ÿ”ด A Little Revlon History Take a Walk Down Memory Lane A Little History In 1932, Revlon was originally a small company that sold nail polish. It later started to offer a few lipstick shades to match a few of its nail polish colors. It was an idea that it had copied from the Cutex Nail Polish Company, which was the first to offer nail polish colors to match lipstick colors that it also sold. Revlon would eventually grow into a giant global business selling a variety of beauty products and cosmetics. Its founder was Charles Revson was the brainchild and driving force of the Revlon Company. In 1930 Charles Revson started out as a salesman selling nail polish for the Elka Company, which had only become established two years earlier in 1928. After working for a short time as a salesman for Elka, he quickly realized that he could establish his own nail polish company instead of only being a salesman. Charles was not only a good salesman, but he was also good looking, charming, ambitious, and smart. While working as a salesman for Elka, he had often wondered why the Elka nail polish was so easy to sell to his customer base of manicurists. He soon learned from chatting up his manicurist customers the secret of what had made the Elka nail polish so unique, desirable, and easy for him to sell ... especially over the other popular brands. He found out that it was because of its "opaque look, ease of application, and that it hid flaws that were in a customer's nail bed." The other brands were "transparent" and did not apply as well or hide flaws.Another important reason why Charles had decided to establish his own business was due to a business acquaintance named Charles Lachman, who was previously given a " share of a business called Desden Chemical. It was owned by his wife's family and it made nail polish! Between knowing that manicurists loved a nail polish that was "opaque, easy to apply and hid nail flaw issues" and befriending Charles Lachman (whose " interest in a Chemical company that made nail polish,) Charles Revson knew that he could not possibly lose! It was a great idea!Charles was so sure of his new business venture idea that he decided to start the business during the middle of the great American depression period. The business was established with his brother Joseph and his business friend named Charles Lachman, they decided to name the new business venture Revlac, which was a combination of Revson and Lachman ... but the name Revlac was not an appealing sounding name to a few people that they surveyed, so they removed the L (from Lachman,) and added an S (from Revson,) which was a smoother and pleasing sounding name, as a result, the new business name became Revlon. It was established in March of 1932 and was located at 38 West 21st Street in New York City.Charles Revson started out with only one simple product which was a reformulated version of the Elka opaque/cream nail polish. He started selling the "new" product to the same manicurist customers who knew and liked him. He gave out free samples for them to try under the "new brand name." The manicurists liked the new product since it offered the same benefits as the Elka Nail Polish did ... and they also liked the charming Charles Revson who was always well dressed, smiling & charming.
