Description: 1942 Jefferson War Nickels Complete Set 1942P, 1942D, 1942P Silver, 1942S Silver Here's a really tough set to put together- You will get the complete set of four coins pictured- The set consists of 1942P & 1942D (both Type I) and 1942P and 1942S (both Type II silver) for a total of four coins. All are in average circulated condition. 1942 was a transition year for the Jefferson nickel. When the USA entered WWII they diverted key metals needed for the war effort from the mint, but they had already begun their production runs of the Type I regular composition nickels, so there was a second type added, Type II, which are the silver composition nickels. These are non-existent in circulation today-- you might get lucky and find one, but it's becoming less and less likely as collectors have long since pulled the older collectible nickels from circulation. It took us quite an effort to pull this collection together, because they really are scarce and the price continues to rise on them. This is a nice set of average circulated examples and what you see is what you get. We have many of the key date nickel sets listed, so please have a look.
