The map opens to a generous 25" x 32" and is drawn on a scale of 1:6,000,000, which provides great detail. It shows roads, railways, cities, towns, homesteads, and natural features. Little symbols locate break-of-gauge stations, where a railway line of one gauge meets a line of another gauge. There are hundreds of place names, and the map offers a fascinating look at the geography of Australia, from the Great Barrier Reef to the road through Mundrabilla and Nullarbor along the Great Australian Bight. There are insets of Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania. This map was lithographed by A. Hoen & Company, Baltimore and published by the National Geographic Society as a supplement to the March 1948 National Geographic Magazine. Condition: It is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side.
