Canadian silver dollars minted between 1971 and 1973 are often found beautifully toned because the coins were issued without a capsule and the high amount of sulphur contained in the plastic in the original cases issued by the Royal Canadian Mint reacted with the silver to create some stunning coins. Beginning in 1974, sets and individual silver dollars were housed in airtight capsules which meant toning was no longer commonly found. All of these silver dollars were purchased as an investment by the original owner in the early 1970's and were never opened! 50 years later they were sold to me and I had the pleasure of opening each coin up, removing it from its original case, and heat sealing it in an acid-free Guardhouse flip for safe keeping. Silver dollars minted between 1971 and 1991 are made of 50% silver and contain .375 troy ounces of pure silver. Yes, I combine shipping for an additional $1.00 per item!
