Description: 2 Rare Naval Prints WW2 HMS Illustrious & SS Ohio by Edwin Galea Matching Frames These are absolutely stunning in matching frames. Condition is used but excellent with some small dents to frame, please review pictures. Print 1 - Grand Harbour in 1941 Description - H.M.S Illustrious under a dive-bombing attack by Stukas in January 1941 while undergoing repairs at H.M. Dockyard, Parlatorio Wharf, French Creek. Dimensions 51cm x 44.5cm Additional Info - HMS Illustrious was the lead ship of her class built for the Royal Navy before WW2. She bombed and very badly damaged on 7th January 1941 in the Eastern Mediterranean off Malta. She made Malta that evening and remained there making emergency repairs (and under attack) until 23rd January when she was finally able to sortie for Egypt, making Alexandria the next day. Print 2 - Santa Marija Convoy Description - Tanker Ohio, the ship that saved Malta, under attack as convoy code-named Pedestal sails on in August 1942. Dimensions - 51cm x 44.5cm Additional Info - The SS Ohio was an oil tanker built for the Texas Oil Company. she was requisitioned by the UK to re-supply Malta during the WW2. operation Pedestal (Santa Maria Convoy), for the Maltese, was one of the fiercest of the Malta Convoys. in August 1942 Ohio made it to Malta, but she was so badly damaged that she had to be scuttled in order to discharge her precious cargo.
