It is fine to keep these grafted for a few years however it is important to have a way to prevent them from snapping the thin stems once they get heavy. When separating, it is important to cut away all of the pereskipsis section trying to bruise the saguaro part, then using cinnamon which I use or any other type of fungicide to coat the wound to heal for about a week. Saguaro seedlings take 2-3 months to root once de-grafted.
