Description: Antique 17-18 century IndoPersian Islamic Kulah Khud Helmet to sword shamshir Antique 17th-18th century Indo Persian Islamic Kulah Khud Helmet Click images to enlarge Description Antique 17h -18th century Islamic Indo Persian helmet Kulah-Khud. The hemispherical skull of the helmet is hand hammered from a single piece of thick, solid steel with visible hammer marks on the inside, but with a perfectly smooth exterior surface. The skull is surmounted with a long, stout spike and affixed on the front with moveable nasal guard, flanked by two plume holders. The entire surface of the skull is finely hand chiseled, in low relief, with a floral pattern and six circular medallions. The border is adorned by a broad band form of 12 oval and round cartouches containing Qur'anic inscriptions in the Arabic calligraphic script, "inasta'liq," the top of the helmet is adorned with a large, elaborated star. These types of Khula Khud helmets originated from Central Asia; however, they were widely used throughout the Islamic world from the 17th to 19th centuries, including Mughal India, Persia, Central Asia, Arab countries, and the Ottoman Empire. Many of these types of helmets used by Ottoman soldiers are displayed at the Topkapı Palace Museum in Istanbul.
