Description: This ebony painted wooden presentation box with brass inlays measures 10" in length, 8" wide and 5 1/2" high. The cover plaque is engraved "Bishop Smith & Co. to E. A. Birchard. There are 11 pieces in all with engraved silver plated lids and covers. I have not attempted to clean the silver. Two scent bottles (3"x2") have their original ground glass stoppers; one has minute chips and the other stopper is perfect but half of the threaded neck is missing. One bottle still has liquid inside. Two taller jars (3 1/4" x 2 1/4"); two squatty jars (1 1/2" x 2 1/2") one has powder in it, the other is empty. One elongated rectangular glass box (6 1/2" x 1 3/4"), another rectangular glass box (3 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 2 1/4"). All silver plate lids have matching engraving. There is an affixed mirror in the lid of the box with a padded, removable envelope type holder that opens to hold letters or stationery; this would protect the mirror while traveling. It also has gold-colored linen accordian sides to allow for expansion. There is a green leather box (7" long), which holds a small toothed bone comb. All inner compartments are dark green leather which is distressed and dry, but intact. There is also a green leather inkwell which is 1 1/4" square and has a hidden button under the leather you press to open. I believe the foil lined compartment is to hold writing implements. The wood case has its original finish with some paint chipping off but in very good condition for its age. It is missing the lock but the box still closes completely. What a cherished item to add to your collection.
