Description: Antique 18th Century Dutch Delft Signed WVDB 't Fortuyn Covered Inkstand 1780 A fine antique blue tin-glazed hand painted Dutch Delft four piece covered inkstand. The inkstand stands on four feet, has three attached pen holders. It h as a violin shaped body very nicely painted with a landscape with a couple fishing on the lid, surrounded by an ornate moth border in the Chinese manner. Inside it holds ink pot and sander. It is signed WVDB, which is the mark of 't Fortuyn (at the sign of Fortune) Delft house, which was run by Elisabeth Elling, widow of Pieter van den Briel, from 1760 to 1786. An old label in the lid dates it to 1780. The inkstand is 4 1/4 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches deep by 3 inches tall and weighs 12 oz. Condition: The inkstand is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks, only some minor glaze losses on rims, common to antique Delft, as shown. Please view the detail photos.
