Description: This bluebird pattern was used by many china manufacturers in the United States. It is difficult to find its origin but Wellsville, Ohio China Company (1902-1969) seems a good place to start. Wellsville made a lot of hotel and restaurant china using the establishment's branding; I believe that this was a department store or grocery store pattern, in a Depression Era giveaway. Any which way, this was made in Ohio, sometime in the first half of the twentieth century, probably in the 1930s. At the time, there was a hugely popular song. "The Bluebird of Happiness" which was meant to lift the spirits of folks suffering from economic loss and Dust Bowl disaster. The platter measures 11.5 X 9 inches.
