Description: Antique Hand Crank German Mechanical Portable Sewing Machine Vtg --- There are 73 photos of the machine and case (scroll down to view). --- The machine base deck plate (the black rectangular base) measures 6.75" x 12.5". The wood base measures 11" x 20.5". The wood base is about 1.5" tall. The wood case cover/top is 10" tall, 10" wide and 19" long. --- NOTE the condition of the wood base and cover (see notes below, there is a lot of veneer chipping/loss as well as chunks of wood missing in places around the wood base...you'll need to examine the 73 photos in this listing as the 24 ebay hosted photos focus more on the machine). --- Hand crank sewing machine turns very smoothly (the prior owner had taken this to a local sewing machine service shop, it had belonged to her mother and she was curious what they thought, I didn't get the impression that they did service on it but I don't know, she did say the shop thought it was a lovely old machine). --- I don't do any sewing myself. I don't see the traditional round shaped bobbin, in the compartment on the right side of the base there are two "boat" shaped metal assemblies that I am guessing are the bobbins (see photos). On the right at the base there is a sliding adjustment that moves the underside foot (that has "teeth" etc). I believe the mechanism on the front right is some kind of limiter or braking mechanism, it appears to move into place as expected, I do see that the rubber brake ring is deformed and not functional for that purpose (it's intact and not cracking or dried out but the shape is out of round a little larger than it should be). --- Before going any longer I should point out that the wood case/base has veneer loss as well as some larger chipped areas. It is also missing the lock key (so doesn't snap into the lock, actually I didn't try as I wouldn't want it to lock up). The clip on the otherside of the case cover should latch into a fitting on the base edge, it looks like that fitting plate is inside the accessory compartment but is bent out of shape (see photos). As noted above you'll need to examine all of the 73 photos to get a better idea of the case condition (the 24 ebay hosted photos are more focused on the machine itself). --- The machine is hinged at the back and has a latch in the front. The latch seems to catch and not fully release but applying some upward pressure opens it up (you can see there is a screw that is threaded out that should hold the latch in place...inside the wood base). Looking at the hinge screws I would say they look like they have some wear including some signs of bending etc. --- The white crank handle appears to be porcelain. A lot of the gold decoration on the machine is worn off. There is a nice abalone decoration embedded into the center base/deck. --- The wood case cover has some blistering on the veneer (fine cracking with edge curling). General soiling to the wood with numerous stains and heavy scratches and nicks etc including some noticeable chips missing. The cover is not warped and looks clean inside. It has the original handle. From what I can see all the faces of the case lid are veneer. To what extent they can be restored is unknown. Great looking star shaped inlay in the handle area. --- The wood base as you can see has some large chips as well as veneer loss and damage. The bottom of the wood base looks like it was originally covered in leather or felt, all or most of which is gone and what is left is dried out and coming off. --- For shipping I will of course be sure the machine cannot move, I've packed a number of sewing machines and understand they are complicated mechanical devices with fragile components. In addition to packing the machine under the cover with rigid packing (sheet foam etc), I will then construct a shipping container out of new sheet foam surrounded by at least one outer box, I pack so that I'm not worried about the package being dropped on concrete. --- See photos for condition details. --- Will be well packed --- See shipping options above --- Payment expected within 3 days of purchase (contact me if you need more time). --- The item description is guaranteed to be accurate but all items are sold as-is unless otherwise stated. --- I don't have a way to arrange for a local pick-up of this item, I'm sorry for the inconvenience
