Description: DESCRIPTION: Fantastically Beautiful 1920's handmade embroidered Silk Piano Shawl, Extra Large Size, Floral motif, with long elegant silk macrame and fringe! Ivory-White base color silk with turquoise flower, leaf and vine embroidery. Embroidered on both sides, though you can tell back by a small edge fold of material. These beautifully embroidered shawls were known as "Manton de Manila". Often hung as decoration on Grand Pianos in the 1920's, and also a beautiful distinctive accessory worn by and associated with Flamenco Dancers in Spain. According to The Fashion Museum- Exhibit: The Manila Shawl: "Historically, it was originally made in Canton, China, and then came to Mexico and Spain from the port of Manila. The demand for Manila shawls grew and many Cantonese factories increased production. In the meantime, some regions in Spain began embroidering them". This is why these shawls are often referred to as Chinese, Spanish, and also Manila. PHOTOS: Front Pics: 1- 11, Back Pics: 12-19 Minor Damage Noted Pics: 20-24 SIZE: Main shawl not counting fringe is ~ 60" X 60", macrame area is ~3 3/4" long, fringe is 17-19" long. The edges are gently curved, so not a sharp square shape. CONDITION: This Antique Used Silk Shawl is in remarkably good condition, with a few flaws associated with age. I can see a few small stains, and a few small holes-one medium small hole (shown in photo). Had one loose thread I left alone that does not seem to hurt anything. There are a few pulls on the embroidery, and small loose threads. The silk appears soft and sturdy, as does the macrame and fringe. Fringe is a bit tangled but this happens some when folded up. I will wrap fringe to help keep it untangled during transport! Please use photos to help determine appearance and condition, and zoom in as needed. Weight of shawl alone without box: 2 Lbs, 13.8 ounces PACKING: I will pack well, and wrap the fringe so as to reduce fringe tangle. PLEASE contact me before paying if you are buying multiple items and I will quote for adjusted combined shipping price. Thanks!
