Description: ARTIST: Hans Ellertsen is a Danish/Norwegian artist of whom little is known. He was born in Bergen, Norway, in 1855, and later moved to Copenhagen. His works have been offered at auctions several times. He seems to have favored landscapes near bodies of water. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a suggestive rendering of a young woman picking flowers behind a rocky coastline. There’s a beautiful evening light and a steamer boat in the background. Although the exact location of the scenery is unknown, these rocky coastlines are much more common to Norway than Denmark, so the painting is more likely from Norway. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1890-1915. Signed: Monogram: “HE” in the lower left corner. SIZE: With frame: 43 cm/16.9" * 30 cm/11.8". Without frame: 35,5 cm/14" * 22,5 cm/8.9". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has minor scratches and stains.
