Designed by Richard Joyce over 400 years ago, who was captured by Algerian pirates during his travels to the West Indies. He was sold to a Moorish goldsmith where he worked until he was released. Despite persuasion to stay, Joyce returned to his native Galway where he continued to work as a goldsmith.
