He also served in the U. S. Air Force, which offered him an excellent opportunity to see Europe. It was love at first sight! While in Germany, he studied at the prestigious Munich Academy of Fine Arts. He believes this old world training has been an invaluable asset in his work. While still in Germany, Gordon experimented with impressionistic painting. Soon it consumed him, and the move to impressionism was complete. Back in the United States, Gordon worked at advertising agencies. His work often appeared in national magazines, and he was the recipient of numerous awards recognizing his talent. Eventually, he made the move to fine art on a full-time basis drawing inspiration from the time he lived in New Orleans and from his Old Masters studies in Europe. Although he visits many locales for inspiration, his paintings reflect his blending of places he has been and the feelings they evoked. He often builds a composition in his mind by gathering different images and details from sketches and drawings and combining them to create a painting. L.
