Description: This Chinese wooden two-tier stacking basket set was designed by Maitland-Smith and handcrafted in China, most likely in the 1980’s-1990’s. It is red and black lacquered with striking gold figures. The lid covers the top basket which “stacks” inside the bottom basket. Height from lid to bottom is 17” and 24” including handle. Width (length) is 16”and depth 10”. This exquisite and rare piece beautifully showcases the rich cultural history of China. The provenance of the basket set is not known. The baskets and handle show normal signs of age and use with some blemishes on edges of baskets and handle (see photos). Overall, these stacking baskets are in good condition.
