Description: "Dark Rivers of the Heart" was written by Dean Koontz and published by Alfred A. Knopf in New York in 1994.This is a rare and possibly unique hardcover, first edition, first printing of this 487-page thriller, and here's why: Koontz lives in Orange County, California, and frequently dines at Zov's Bistro, run by chef-owner Zov Karamardian and her husband Gary. In a 2004 interview with the Los Angeles Times Koontz admitted that: “If they had cots for us to sleep on, my wife and I would move in full time. The food is excellent and consistent, but in the end it’s the personality of the owners. Going for dinner there is like visiting family.”“Koontz is so enamored,” the Times article continued “that he dedicated his best-selling ‘Dark Rivers of the Heart’ to the Karamardians and set part of his thriller ‘Hideaway’ at Zov’s.”The connection goes even deeper. Koontz wrote the foreword to the Karamardians’ 2005 cookbook ‘ZOV Recipes and Memories from the Heart.’ All of which brings us to the book on sale here. It has not only been inscribed, dedicated and dated by Koontz to a couple he obviously dined with at Zov's (see seventh photo), but has also been signed and dated with a message by both Karamardians (see ninth photo).Such an association copy is surely unique and is worthy of a place in the library of true Koontz collectors.The original price, as shown on the dustjacket front flap, was $24.00.
