When pressed, zinc cents can show "streaks" or silver smearing (see Pic) that shows through the copper plating. Pre 1982 pennies are solid copper pennies resulting in a better quality, no streaks or smearing and longer lasting shine. First on stage March 2001 and retired April 2011.
