Snubbed by the Pulitzer head Nicholas Murray Butler in 1941 this book should have won the prize for fiction that year but Butler found the book offensive and as such no prize for fiction was awarded that year. This despite the committee for letters unanimously recommending the novel. . Book VG with trace soiling to edges and text block. Very neat and small prior owner to ffep as was common at the time. Faint sticker ghost to ffep. Tight binding, straight and true, nice stamped spine with bright colors. Boards clean. Sharp corners. Nice copy! First state dust jacket, VG with typical edgewear and rubbing. Slight red transfer to verso spine. Small tape repair to top edge. Corners trimmed but price remains! Very bold coloring to all panel and uncharacteristically bright spine where blues and red remain bright!
