Description: Russian-made Badge of the Belorussian (formerly Soviet) 5th Separate Special Purpose (Paratrooper Spetsnaz) Brigade. Made in light-weight metal, paint, and lacquer, this is a good-looking set of wings.; measures approx. 63 mm wide. The emblem of the division is a separate, superimposed part. The badge is in excellent condition, showing only minor storage age, no significant wear. The Soviet 5th Separate Special Purpose Brigade was an elite paratrooper unit formed in 1963 as part of the expansion of the Soviet airborne forces early in the Cold War. The level of training of its soldiers was so high that it was considered equal to the KGB elite Spetsnaz unit Vympel. During the Soviet war in Afghanistan, a special detachment was formed from its core cadres to fight the insurgent and interdict traffic in drugs and weapons in the most difficult mountainous terrain. The brigade also saw combat in 1990 in Armenia after the start of the Nagornyi Karabakh conflict. When the Soviet Union disintegrated at the end of 1991, the brigade stationed in the Soviet Republic of Belorussia was transferred to the newly formed Belarus government. It remains a part of the Belarus armed forces to this day. Please note: The penny in the last photo is there for size reference. FREE SHIPPING (USPS Ground Advantage Mail) WITHIN USA ONLY!
