Description: eBay Listing Template r1 FULL SET: SARGENT 761 MORTISE LOCK 2 1/2" BS, w/KEYS, KNOB,PLATE EXTERIOR HANDLE, FULLY RESTORED(20225) Vintage: Hard to find Sargent #761 entry mortise lock, complete set! Circa 1900-1930, with mortise lock clearly marked Sargent & Co.Featured in the 1910 catalog (see pic). Heavy clean brass faceplate, completely restored! Beautiful functioning lock. The 761 has a 2 1/2" backset. This lock accommodates a thumb press handle from the outside and a turn knob from the inside. NOTE: Sargent made several generational changes to the 761 during its long lifetime. This appears to be one of the earlier versions wherein the plunger, placed between the two push buttons on the brass face, measures 3/4" of an inch. Some later versions we have seen had a wider plunger. While the overall function on all these versions is the same, it is possible they may not all accommodate the same strikeplate spacing. In any event, these locks are very difficult to find. THE MORTISE: FACEPLATE MEASUREMENTS: Heavy brass face plate, measures 7 1/2" by 1 1/8" by 1/8" thick. SCREWS: Screws are on 6 3/4" centers. BOX MEASUREMENTS: Box is 3 5/8" deep from the front edge of the faceplate to the back of the black box. It is 5 5/8" top to bottom. BACKSET: (the distance from the front edge of the front plate to the center of the knob post hole) on this one is 2 1/2". DROP: (the distance from the center of the knob post hole down to the center of the round portion of key slot is also 3 3/4". FUNCTIONALITY: Designed for a 5/16" 1/2 knob post from the inside of the door and for a thumb press handle to be used from the outside of the door.THUMB PRESS EXTERIOR HANDLE: Nickel platet handle grip thumb press exterior handle. INTERIOR GLASS HANDLE: Fluted interior glass handle as pictured.INTERIOR BACKPLATE WITH THUMB TURN: Nickel plated back plate measures 8 1/2" in length and has the deadbolt thumb turn built into it. BRASS CYLINDER ESCUTCHEON: The set includes the exterior cylinder lock escutcheon that matches the set, also in nickel plated brass. If you are replacing an existing set you may not need a strikeplate, but, if you do, please check with us before bidding to see if we have what you need. We can then add it to the description and the price. Extremely well made, no rust, functions very well, with both keys! Add a few screws and you are good to go with this beauty!!
