GDA Ch Field Haviland Limoges 8 1/2" Plate Roses & Scrollwork w/Gold 1900-1941

Description: GDA Ch Field Haviland Limoges 8 1/2" Plate Roses & Scrollwork w/Gold 1900-1941 Elegant Decorative 8 1/2" Diameter PLATE from GDA (Gerard, Dufraisseix, & Abbot), Charles Field Haviland Limoges, France, PINK FLOWERS w/Green Leaves, GOLD Trim on Rim & EMBOSSING, 1900-1941 DESCRIPTION:  This beautiful 8 1/2" plate has the elegant stippled, wide, bold gold band on the scalloped & embossed rim.  The gold enhancement on the embossing is particularly outstanding with the green wash fading towards the bold, red trim band at the verge.  This red band is further enhanced by a garland of gold flowers & leaves.  Next to this, just below the verge is another garland of gold scrollwork.  The center has a spray of the same pink flowers nested in a handled basket.  There are even gray ghost leaves to give depth to the design.   This is such an elegant, impressive plate. CONDITION:  While this plate is classified as used, the condition is superb.  We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs.  There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors or gold and no crazing.  Look in the photos to see this. DIMENSIONS:  The plate has a diameter of 8 1/2" and a height of 7/8". HISTORY/MARKS:  Charles Field Haviland is the nephew of David Haviland, who started his company in 1853 in Limoges, France to manufacture china for the American market.  Charles Field in 1858 married Loiuse Alluaud, the granddaughter of the Alluaud porcelain family. In 1876 management of the firm was entrusted to Charles Field Haviland and the name was changed prior to his retirement in 1881.  When he retired, the name was bought and has passed down through several firms until the present day.  In Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, the GDA mark (#1) on this plate is described as a green underglaze mark (Haviland manufacturer's mark) that was used from 1900-1941.  GDA stands for Gerard, Dufraisseix, & Abbot.  There is also the red overglaze decorator’s mark #3 used 1900-1941.  So, this sets the circa to the time period 1900-1941.
