G.I. Joe 25th / Defense of Cobra Island Alley Viper Pre Production Prototype

Description: You are looking at one G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary Or Defense of Cobra Island Alley Viper Prototype figure based on his beloved vintage figure. AV appears to have some hand painted areas on his back and lower legs. He has the factory and designer markings to denote which factory and the specific paint/sculpt versions of the figure. His small knife w sheath wasn't attached yet in the factory process before this figure was removed for designer inspection. I acquired the shield and helmet later from another collector and I can't verify that they're pre production because the hand written markings aren't quite the same as the others I've encountered. I received this figure from either viperskingdom or wstoys back in the late 00's through a mutual connection with my friend, the great Gary Goggles Head. A brief history: Hasbro's design team was working on future waves 14-16, and likely beyond, of the 25th Anniversary line. They planned to include versions of characters from the animated series in the next few waves. Those waves were shelved when emphasis pivoted to the Rise of Cobra movie line. Similarly, some figures planned for the last waves of Rise of Cobra were canceled or altered to remove the movie-licensed likenesses or costumes and branded as Pursuit of Cobra. Known figures planned for those waves were: Rise of Cobra Reactive Armor Zap, v1 styled Alley Viper, Jungle Duke w Tatum head, Jungle Cobra Commander, Res Baroness(blue instead of the gray/black), DOCI Alley Viper, Res Destro(with mechanical arm), Res Snake Eyes (reused in the RoC line as "City Strike" SE), Scarlett with black accents, Alternate Paint Colors Roadblock, Storm Shadow and Resolute Alley Viper. This figure was finally released to retail via an exclusive 7 pack set(Defense of Cobra Island) that was available at US Discount chain "ROSS" after larger retailers passed on it.
