It is now naturalized along roads in some parts of the United States. General Description: Hyssop is a purple-spiked, woody-stemmed flowering perennial that not only attracts humans, but honeybees as well. Western honeybees make a rich and aromatic honey from the nectar of these flowers. Winterization Methods: Cut back established plants in early spring to encourage bushier growth, and then again after flowering. This will keep them from becoming too spindly. Fun Fact: During the seventeenth century, hyssop was used to reduce perspiration and to cure jaundice and dropsy.
