Description: ~ Hello and welcome to The Textile Trunk! ~ Please come join us on Instagram: @textiletrunk ~ This amazing textile has been in my private collection for 10 years! This textile is one of the worlds most rare. This quilt dates from the 18th century, early to mid. This is one of the only known chinoiserie patterns in Indigo resist. Scholars debate the origin of this pattern, European or American. I found this textile in America, it came from an old home in Vermont. This pattern is documented in " Americas Indigo Blues" Florence H Pettit , a fabulous resource. The Metropolitan Museum of Art purchases a piece ( 40 inches by 41 inches ) ) of this pattern in 1940. This resist uses 2 shades of blue on white with picotage. The barque and the figure holding a banner are 10 inches high. The ground cloth is a loosely woven cotton and backed in a loosely woven gauze like cotton. This textile is hand stitched and hand quilted. MEASUREMENTS : This rare textile measures 83 inches by 73 inches CONDITION: This textile is in wonderful condition for its age and use. There is fading consistent with its age. There are some small holes here and there. There is some patching on the back and some marks. Please use the zoom feature to view the condition closely. Item Number: A 0001 07/02/2021
