Description: Iris missouriensis is a perennial in the Iridaceae family. A native to western North America. Some familiar names include the western blue flag, Rocky Mountain iris, and Missouri flag. It can grow in high elevation all the way down to sea level. It can grow to 3 feet tall and wide in full sun to part shade. Three petals are a lighter blue lined with purple, while the other three are darker blue-purple surrounding the lighter petals. A very intricate flower and a pleasure to look at. It has basal leaves that are linear around the height of the plant. Zones 3-8 Germination Mix seeds and soil and moisten the mix slightly in a ziplock bag. Write the name of the seed on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 days. Seed should be sown into well-drained, sandy compost and covered to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in a filtered light spot and kept moist. Seeds germinate very slowly regardless of when they are sown. Some seeds may take more than a year to germinate.
