Description: This lot contains two very early State of Mississippi documents, one is signed by Governor Abram Marshall Scott. This is a 'State of Mississippi, 6% 'Planters' Bank' Loan bond, issued in 1833 for $1000, series G, redeemable 1871. It is certificate number 1774, is signed by the Governor, A.M.Scott and has attractive engine turned borders with coupons folding off to both sides. It measures about 19.5" x 14.5" when fully-opened. Generally clean with light wear and the original folds, has a small chip from the left edge on the other side of the coupons. Also included is a second document with the format of a bond, which is a coupon sheet for obtaining interest payments in London. This was also issued in 1833 and has serial numbers which match the main bond. It measures about 9.75" x 19". Shows light wear, some fold split and the original folds. From Wikipedia on Scott: Abram Marshall Scott (1785 – June 12, 1833) was a National Republican Mississippi politician born in Edgefield County in the Province of South Carolina. He was an early settler of Wilkinson County, Mississippi and was instrumental in founding the town of Woodville, Mississippi. He held a number of local political offices there before his election to the senate. He served in the state senate in 1822 and 1826–1827. In 1832, he was sworn in as seventh Governor of Mississippi. He served until his death on June 12, 1833 due to a cholera epidemic in Jackson. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Jackson, Mississippi. Charles Lynch succeeded him in office.
