Description: For sale are four (4) issues of the vintage folk music magazine Hoot, which was published in Toronto, Ontario Canada in the 1960s. All four issues are from 1966. Each measure approximately 8.5" by 7". These are very, very rare. Included are: Hoot Magazine Volume 2, Number 2, March 1966: Gordon Lightfoot is on the cover and there is a profile on him. There is an article on the TV taping of Living with the Blues, featuring photos of Muddy Waters, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGee, Jesse Fuller, Willie Dixon, and other amazing blues players. Hoot Magazine Volume 2, Number 3, May 1966: Ian and Sylvia are on the cover and there is a profile on them. Hoot Magazine Volume 2, Number 4, July 1966: The Stormy Clovers are on the cover and there is a profile on them. There is a photo of and article by Peter, Paul & Mary and also an interview with Roebuck Staples (of the Staples Singers) Hoot Magazine Volume 2, Number 5, September 1966: Joni Mitchell is on the cover. Joni is featured in a 4-page profile that includes narrative, photos, and even a song score & lyrics for 'Urge for Going'. A song score & lyrics for 'The Circle Game' is also in this issue + an additional candid photo of Joni. Both songs were unreleased by Joni when this was published. There is also an add with photo for Joni's appearances at Riverboat Coffeehouse in Toronto Nov 8-13, 1966. **The magazines were acquired from the estate of the late Mary Martin in Nashville. Ms. Martin was an early manager of Leonard Cohen and Van Morrison, and introduced Bob Dylan to The Band in the 1960s when she worked for Dylan's manager at the time. She also signed Emmylou Harris to her recording contract with Warner Bros. in the 1970s. ** Condition: These are in very good condition overall. There is some edge and corner wear, fading, and light staining. No pages missing. No writing in the magazines with the exception of on the back of Number 2. Pages are not dog-eared, with the exception of the back cover of Number 4. Please note the magazines were originally owned by a smoker and there is a light scent.
