There were others, but these two artists stand out, as they definitely created great music, and they did it on their own. And since their fathers were both gone, they had no help from them at all! The two? Julian Lennon, son of John Lennon, and Ziggy Marley, son of Bob Marley. Both Julian and Ziggy began releasing music in the 80s. Both have long histories of accomplishments and great music that will stand the test of time. Ziggy was just recently performing the music of his father, with his brothers Julian, Stephen, Damian, and Ky-Mani. The 'Legacy Tour'! Ziggy, of course, had The Melody Makers as his first band, and they were his brothers and sisters! Julian Lennon released albums in the 80s, 90s, 2010s, and his latest, titled 'Jude', in 2022. Julian has become an awesome humanitarian and philanthropist. He's done done great things through the years, and he's actually a very cool and very laid back down to earth guy! Julian even recorded a version of one of his father's best songs ever recorded, "Imagine", with the proceeds going to help those in need in Ukraine. Today we take a look at Julian Lennon, and we feature a really nice bundle of some cool items! First up is a 8" X 5" color photo of a young Julian Lennon, and signed! This is an actual signature, and not a reprint. He's got long hair, and it looks like a promo pic from the early days. Solid white backing. Signed with what looks like a paint pen. I got this from a close friend who worked at a venue that Julian performed at. Next up is a promo 12" single for the song "Stick Around", from the 1986 album 'The Secret Value of Daydreaming'. This 12" has that great song's album version, as well as an extended remix. Check out the video, it stars Julian and Jami Gertz, with appearances by Michael J. Fox, Joe Piscopo, Martin Kove (from the 'Karate Kid' movies), and even a Playboy Playmate! The vinyl looks new, and is still shiny and clean. Comes in a plain white die-cut sleeve. Next up is a vintage shaped picture disc, for the track "Valotte", from the FORTY year old album of the same name. It originally had a clear vinyl border, but it has oxidized through the years, and is now "tea-stained" a bit. Not too bad, and it gives it a really cool sepia look. Like it's supposed to be that way! It looks good, but with a few light surface marks on both sides. I can't vouch for the sound quality as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. A nice piece to own, from 1984. Made to promote the second single from 'Valotte'. And we'll end with a CD single. When I saw the title, I actually thought it was a remake of the old Badfinger song "Day After Day", but it's not! It's a Julian Lennon song that's from his 1998 album 'Photograph Smile'. This CD single also adds another track from the album ("Good To Be Lonely"), and a non-album track (at the time) "Don't Let Me Down". Late 90s Julian looks a lot different from long haired 80s Julian! But he still looks like his father, no matter what decade it is... Julian can look back on a long and successful career, though I'm sure he's not done yet. He's close to his half brother Sean, and respects the legacy of his father, and of The Beatles. It's in his DNA, so how can he NOT accept and respect it, right? The man is amazing, and has made some fantastic, classic, and memorable tunes since the 80s. Forty years of great music!
