Cover is brown cloth with color illustration. VERY worn around the corners, edges and spine. Top, bottom spine is torn. A tear running the length of the book at back spine edge. Spine and its imprinting is faded. Stamp mark on bottom page edges. Covers have soiling and discolored spots. Considerable inside foxing. Stamp marks on the inside front cover and end page, on title page and first text page. A color fold-out map has a very large tear. No other inside markings. Pages are clean but yellowed. Two pages of ads at the end. imprinting on the front cover and spine is fading. Corners, spine bumped. Inside: Some pencil writing on the inside back cover and back end page. A bit more ink writing on the titles list page opposite the title page. The remainder of pages are relatively clean but yellowed and some have age spots.5.25" x 7.5". 306 pages with 32 B&W illustrations by Russell Flint. King Solomon's Mines is a popular novel by the English Victorian adventure writer and fabulist Sir H. Rider Haggard. It tells of an expedition through an unexplored region of Africa by a group of adventurers led by Allan Quatermain, searching for the missing brother of one of the party. It is one of the first English adventure novels set in Africa and is considered to be the genesis of the lost world literary genre. It is the first of fourteen novels and four short stories by Haggard about Allan Quatermain.
