Description: French Line: A large First Class deck plan with interior photos for the FRANCE dated July 1926. The plan measures 38" by 44". Five decks are shown in color-coded detailed, ranging from the public-room-filled Promenade Deck down to the lower level of the Dining Saloon on Deck D. The soaring, two-level dining saloon was the hit of the ship with its Grand Descent, as ornate as the jewelry of ladies who gracefully descended, making sure all eyes were upon them. My cabin would be up on Deck A, the aptly named "Grand Luxe" suite, appropriate for a time traveller such as myself. If you wish to join me, there are five "Luxe" suites scattered throughout. Besides a portrait of the ship, photos show the Grand Salon Louis XIV, a Deck C single cabin, the Dining Salon, and the Grand Foyer. All this elegance would be overshadowed by the introduction of the deco-splendid ILE DE FRANCE a year later. At the height of the Depression in 1932 the FRANCE would be laid up. A trip to the breakers came in 1934. Very good condition.
