The table top on this table is constructed of solid pine, edge-glued panels, for a stable surface that won't warp. The table legs are solid lodge-pole pine logs and everything 'log' is hand-peeled with draw knives for a rustic skip-peeled look then stained and varnished with a strong clear protective coat. The log chairs are very sturdy, will hold your weight well and won't get wobbly or creaky. The distance between table legs on side is 53" and one ends is 27", so it works best with two chairs on each side and one on each end. We use three side chairs on one side and a bench along the other which will fit four little ones if you need the space. Very smooth finish on these pieces. There is some basic assembly on the table to attach the legs to the top, but the chairs are fully assembled. We choose to work with lodgepole pine as it grows naturally in the forests of NW Montana and is known for its superior strength to weight ratio. It is also straighter, thus making it easier to work the raw wood into the highest quality furniture possible. Our lodge pole pine is harvested in the Kootenai National Forest via a very selective process. Skilled woodsmen select each tree with an attentive eye toward the quality, straightness and size of each specimen. After felling, each piece is hand carried to the road to ensure both the tree and the environment remain unharmed. Then each log is hand peeled, using the skip-peel method where some of the inner bark is left on the logs, creating a beautiful rustic piece of furniture for your home, lodge or cabin.
