Description: London & South Western Railway label, in condition as shownThe LSWR was formed in 1839 and had different coloured destination labels, representing different routes, later superceded by blue labels until about 1890 when white paper was used for all destinations. The Isle of Wight destinations became the exception with lilac/mauve coloured labels, which, apart from a few exceptions, are not often found in good condition. All labels measure around 93mm x 36mm and carry the stock code 787, under the l/h or, latterly, mainly the r/h end of the title. The title was capitalised and printed in full on the earlier labels, following which lower case was introduced and, for the final style, ‘Railway’ was reduced to Ry.or Rly. Rly. only seemed to appear on labels with a blank ‘from’ line and also a few printed ‘from Waterloo to’ Labels showing just ‘Waterloo to’ without the preceding ‘from’ were produced for the Callington branch and also a few other destinations, such as Verwood Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
