Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Lot of 2 Vintage Plastic Thomas Toy Rubber Band Powered Submarines One Works Thomas Mfg. Corps., Newark, N.J . Made in USA. Circa early 1960s. Hard plastic, Both are approx. 14-1/2 inches long. Exact scale Unknown. This is a lot of 2 Thomas Toy submarines. They are identical and are powered by a large and long rubber band. Judging by the early 1960s demise of Thomas Manufacturing, I would judge that these are late and couldn’t be much older than the early 1960s. One sub is fairly complete with no cracks or breaks but has a broken rubber ban and doesn’t work. The other is missing the deck gun, one hatch cover and has a broken bow plane and rudder but works fine. When compared, the nearly complete one that doesn’t work is missing and small aluminum tube that the rubber band went through inside (must of left when the band broke). Both subs are marked “Thomas Toy, Newark, N.J. MADE IN U.S.A.” on the bottom. The sub that works has a small chip on the rudder housing, so the rudder doesn’t stay in but the piece is included and could be glued. It also has a broken bow plane on the left side (see photos). Otherwise, both subs have no other cracks or breaks. Since I’ve never seen one of these, I have no way of knowing if there were periscopes on the conning tower (see photos). Sold as a lot. AS IS. Note: Grid in photos is made up of 1 inch squares
