Description: This is Lulzbot TAZ 6 version of the toolhead. =) A little background. My friend and I both upgraded to Taz 6s after owning a number of other printers. Taz taking only 3mm filament was a bit of a pain as we both had tons of 1.75mm filaments left over, not to mention some filaments simply aren't even available in 3mm as 1.75 is the standard these days. Initial research shows that some people were able to print (unsure how extensively) with 1.75mm with their Taz unmodified. We both tried with sub-par results; some filaments were able to print fine-ish while others were constantly experiencing jamming may hours into a print, caused by retraction pulling plastic into over sized 3mm transition zone bore after analyzing many many jammed filaments. We tried stuffing extrude with diameter reduction PTFE/aluminum tubes but never achieved the performance desired, Taz 6's auto leveling procedure at the beginning of each print made this issue even more problematic as often times they get stuck onto semi-melted filament and get pinched by hobbed bolt/idler bearing. After tons of headache we agreed the best solution was simply to have a whole separate tool head designed for 1.75mm and swap between print heads to get the best of both worlds. Hundreds of combined hours into R&D into building our own improved 1.75mm tool heads to address multiple shortcomings. Long story short, we severely underestimated the amount of changes needed to every part of this tool head to ensure the best print quality with 1.75mm filament, and this is the end result. To ensure best performance, high quality all-metal hot end with .5mm nozzle was used as well as same stepper motor used by Lulzbot. Improvements and design changes are as follows:Better performing hot end with swap-able high quality 0.5mm nozzle. (same 0.5mm orifice as original print head) Quieter ball bearing hot end cooling fan.Revised part cooling fan duct geometry for better spread and less undesirable airflow over the nozzle/heating block. Revised extruder body with stronger backside bearing mount. (this is a common breakage area)PTFE tube enclosed filament path ensures smooth extrusion and extends up to the drive wheel, performs wonderfully with flexible filaments. Revised tension idler with more positive lock and is substantially stronger. (this is a common part to break on original hot end)Revised spring diameter to minimize stripping/grinding 1.75mm filaments.Additional support anchor directly above the stepper motor to substantially increase rigidity of the tool head. No more wobble/flex from the tool head. (very noticeable during nozzle wiping and high speed printing) Revised mount with stepper motor screw access holes for that allows you to remove the motor without taking the tool head apart. Elevated hot end cooling fan for better view and easier maintenance.Gold plated connector pins for better corrosion resistance.Stronger printed components are printed with Volcano hot end with very high layer-squish-to-width ratio to ensure maximum thermal bond between each layers, resulted parts are much stronger than original Lulzbot tool heads. Tool heads for sale are brand new, built-to-order, each tool head has been individually calibrate to ensure performance and the resulting e-steps value is labeled on the back of toolhead. It is plug-and-play for TAZ 6TAZ 5 and MINI versions are also available, please check my other listing. This tool head is not made by LulzBot.
