Description: . In this auction - a TABLE SERVING SPOON in DURGIN’S MADAME ROYALE pattern. This pattern dates to 1897. This Art Nouveau spoon was made prior to the merge with Gorham in 1905. It is a beautiful, classic pattern with the handle being ornate with floral bouquet at the tip of the handle and trailing leaf border down the rest of the handle. Decoration ends as the handle meets the bowl. The Durgin D in script lettering is at the base of the handle on the reverse. The floral pattern follows through to the back side of the handle. It is also marked STERLING on the back of the handle. The retailer’s name of HANSEL, SLOAN & CO. also appears on the backside. HANSEL, SLOAN & CO. was located in HARTFORD, CT about 1892 – 1918 (Art Nouveau period). There is a B mono on the front of the handle. Nicely done. This lovely solid, silver, item measures 8-3/8” in length. This is in Beautiful ‘as found’ estate condition In EXCELLENT condition for an EARLY piece of sterling!
