Description: This 1978 3LP box set from RCA Red Seal (ARL3-2536), issued under license from Erato Records of France, features a complete performance of Monteverdi's opera Orfeo across five album sides, plus an additional Side 6 of Madrigals. Featured vocalists in Orfeo include Eric Tappy (Tenor), Magali Schwartz (Mezzo-soprano), Wally Staempfli (Soprano), Theo Altmeyer (Tenor), Yvonne Perrin (Soprano), Vincent Girod (Countertenor), Philippe Huttenlocher (Baritone), Laura Sarti (Soprano), Margrit Conrad (Contralto), François Loup (Bass), Juliette Bise (Soprano), Jakob Staempfli (Bass) and Olivier Dufour (Tenor), accompanied by the Vocal and Instrumental Ensemble of Lausanne, conducted by Michel Corboz. Madrigals on Side 6 include some additional vocalists: Jennifer Smith (Soprano), Nicole Rossier (Mezzo-soprano), Michel Brodard (Bass), John Elwes (Tenor) and Hanna Schaer (Alto), accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne, again conducted by Michel Corboz. Also included is a large (album-sized) 12-page booklet with notes in English by Richard Mohr, and a full libretto in Italian and English. There is a single light pop scratch near the beginning of Side 5. The box has a small rectangular notch cut into the upper left that has been taped over (Photos 1 & 2). The box also shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). There is some partial separation of the paper lid hinge, although all box corners are intact and in good condition. This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
