This featured specimen is an amazing all-natural, unpolished cabinet size Cathedral/Lightbrary Quartz specimen. This specimen has many outstanding properties and characteristics: 1. This Cathedral Quartz specimen is a Lightbrary, which essentially stands for “Light Library” and are said to house the Libraries of Light! Such specimens are special as they are often known for their distinct appearance and for their metaphysical property as the powerhouse of energy. 2. This specimen has a slight tint of citrine at certain angles and it is completely unpolished and entirely natural. 3. This featured quartz specimen is characterized by its unique growth pattern, similar to the structure of Elestial quartz, which are skeletal looking crystals with layers of terminations all over the surface. The general appearance of these crystals consists of layered geometric patterns, depressions/cavities, and raised terminations. These in fact are layers of sheet-like growth, an indication of the internal onion-like lamellar structure. These multiple layers ("lamellae") merge and give the specimen an onion-like layered structure, in particular in the outer parts, but more commonly only isolated areas of multiple sheets/layers that are parallel to the prism faces, and close to the surface. This lamellar structure gives this Cathedral/Lighbrary Quartz specimen its grandeur and unique appeal. 4. This specimen also has the structure of a Cathedral quartz. The structure is essentially a crystal with several smaller crystal points that lead into one main crystal termination. These other smaller crystal points are not the typical points as they display instead the unique lamellar structure as outlined in #3. 5. The crystals are transparent to translucent due to the natural impurities, as well as the gorgeous displays of natural occurring inclusions, including some crystalline planes within that exhibit strong double refraction which allows light to flow through and/or reflect upon it. Hence when held under light and at certain angles, you can see the beautiful luster, some rainbow hues, including the strong refraction. Additionally, some areas also appear frosted , like they have a matte finish. 6. The most unique characteristic is a series of horizontal striations running up one or more sides of the crystals. Striations are the parallel raised ridges or steps found on the lower faces of this Quartz specimen. 7. Etching appears as markings on the exterior surface of this specimen where minerals have been washed away by hydrothermal water during its formation. Etchings are recognized by abrasions and/or intricate indentations, often forming patterns or textures. Very fascinating indeed.
