AT THE TIME THE SPARTANS PLAYED THERE IT WAS CALLED UNIVERSAL STADIUM AND THE NAME WAS CHANGED IN 1970 TO SPARTAN STADIUM TO HONOR THE SPARTANS. THE SPARTANS PLAYED THE CHICAGO BEARS, GREEN BAY PACKERS, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES AND NEW YORK GIANTS AMOUNG OTHERS ON THIS FIELD. THE STADIUM STILL STANDS AND IS USED TODAY AND LOOKS JUST LIKE IT DID WHEN THE SPARTANS PLAYED THERE. NEXT DOOR TO THE STADIUM AS SEEN IN THE POSTCARD IS WHAT TODAY IS KNOW AS BRANCH RICKEY PARK BASEBALL STADIUM. IN HONOR OF BASEBALL PLAYER AND EXECUTIVE BRANCH RICKEY WHO WAS A NATIVE OF SCIOTO COUNTY. IN 1934 THE SPARTANS WERE SOLD AND BECAME THE DETROIT LIONS.
