Omar hit .272 with 2,877 hits, 80 homers and 951 RBI and was honored with 11 Gold Glove Awards. Considered one of the finest defensive shortstops in the game, he was a 3 time All-Star and holds several defensive fielding records including the all time record for double plays turned. He played his first 5 seasons for the Seattle Mariners followed by the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. Omar was a coach with the Angels in 2013 and for the Detroit Tigers from 2014-2017. He managed Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican League for 3 seasons as well. He's a published author and helped raised over $500,000 for the 1999 victims of the mudslides in his native Venezuela.
