Description: OPUNTIA FICUS-INDICA- Often called "Prickly Pear", "Elephant Ears", "Indian Fig", "Barbary Fig", "Mission Cactus", etc. Known in Spanish as Nopal (the leaves) and Tuna or Tunas (the fruits), it's exact origin in Mexico has been lost, this Cacti has been spread all over the world since the 1500's to dry areas, from Spain, Sicily, North Africa, Palestine, Syria, etc. Both the leaves and the fruits are used as food items. These are one of the super plants that have 100's of uses, from medicine to making paint! Nice fresh aprx. 9 to 12 inches or larger clean cutting, six (6) complete pads, may or may not have buds, or fruits depending on season. Cut treated with Rootone root growth hormone to help with sure rooting. This is a very drought resistant cacti requires little to no water once established, hardy to 15o F. Very attractive Yellow to yellow orange flowers when blooming, spring to summer, the bees love this! Very hardy and fairly easy to grow in most climates where it does not freeze often, requires very little water. A "tree cacti", can reach 16 to 20 feet tall at maturity, often spreading in large patches, and a relatively fast grower. Photos here are the actual plants you will receive cutting from. These are younger leaves or pads, generally a year or two old and will have some scars from hail, etc. but are good healthy ones we select for the least damage.
